Sophie Grey Stories

“A Different Ending” by Sophie Grey

Book two.
Chapter 1.

“That one looks like a… pirate ship!”

“Yeah! It does.”
“I never noticed that the clouds were so vivid from up here.”

“Well yeah we aren’t exactly down there anymore.” We both looked down at our town by hanging on the cloud.
“Kevin?
“Yes Nora?”
“Can we go down there just for today?”
“I don’t know Nora I don’t want us to lose our privileges.”
“Please please please please please please pleas—“
“Okay okay! just hold my hand and follow me… Nora?”
“Yeah?”
“Where do you want to go? California again?”
“Nah… We are already here. Lets go visit our parents.”
“Uh… Why? Nora your mom killed me!”
“I know… But I just want to see her if she is feeling okay. You know she just had her surgery. I’m glad she is alive.”
“Okay. But I’m not going in.”
“Fine. That’s fair.”

Chapter 2.

There are different types of ghosts in the world. For instance, Kevin and I are Haunting Ghosts. We were named this by the humans because we either go in their world or we either have unfinished business. Kevin and I are supposed to take care of our parents— and each other! Humans first saw us centuries ago because whenever the ghosts ever did hit something really hard, then it would go through the portal of real life and death and then humans would see it. Those ghosts who let the humans see them are then hunted down by the Ghost Hunter and then are catched to be put in the cemetery where they lie in their decaying body forever and watch themselves be eaten by maggots and worms until their soul is entirely eaten. Which at that point, the ghost dies.

“We’re here Nora!”
“My house. Kevin can you please come in with me?”
“Fine but only for you.”
“Thank you.” We both went through the door and saw a maid in the house getting a glass of water and putting it on a tray. I then followed her upstairs where she went to take to my mother.

“Oh my. Mom?” my mom had a tube in her nose and was sitting in bed writing. She was writing how she felt about losing me and going to the hospital and all that. Then she put in in an envelope and wrote on the top “To therapist.”

“Kevin. What happened— Kevin?” Kevin left. I looked for him throughout the house and saw him hitting the hall closet door.

“Stupid door—“
“Kevin stop!” I hugged him “Kevin come on stop kicking the door. Let’s go to the fair! No one will notice.”
“Nah you want to see your mom.”
“No I don’t! Let’s hang!”

We kissed and left. While Kevin went through the door: “I’m looking out for you mom. Always”

“Hey. You coming?”
“Yeah… Let’s go.”

Chapter Three.

“That was fun.”
“I know! I wish I could still have cotton candy!”
“You know what. Me too.”
“Kevin? What are you doing?” He went up and tried to take the cotton candy from the girl who was holding it. “Stop Kevin!"
“You’re going to get what you want.”
“You know what? Cotton candy stinks let’s leave.”
“No.”
“What’s wrong with you Kevin?”
“I made you die. If I never died then you would have never killed yourself.”
“Kevin I made my decision and that was final so stop trying to grab it!” He didn’t listen. Finally, he grabbed it.
“No! Kevin!” The girl looked how the cotton candy left her hand and screamed. We ran and ran then I stopped.
“Come on Nora let’s ditch!”
“There’s no use! He’s coming.”
“No we can still make it!”
“No we can’t.” I hugged him and then Suddenly, it went dark. You couldn’t see anyone. Only the… Hunter.
“It’s time.”
“It wasn’t us.”
“That’s true.” We both looked astonished. We both said:
“It’s not?”
“Yes. It was only you.” He pointed at Kevin.
“No! Please don’t take him. We were in California and and and—“ Kevin shushed me.
“Shh.” we hugged and kissed.
“THIS IS NOT GOODBYE.”
“Nora. Thank—“
“I’m sorry darling. It is.” said the Hunter. They then disappeared. I was alone until the darkness faded away and the fair was back. This was the first time I had nothing else to do to help. I just ran home and sat with my mom. Maybe she had a story about a ghost hunter who took her ghost boyfriend.

Chapter four.

After watching my mom sleep for hours, I decided to go in my attic and to sit in the corner and think. I was lost and alone and worried. Kevin was gone yet again and it was all my fault… again. Suddenly a ghost came up to me and I screamed. He then cupped my mouth and said to be quiet.
“It’s not worth it to scream. We’re dead, what else could I do?”
“Who are you?!”
“I’m Zach and your Nora. I know.”
“How do you know?”
“I was at the fair where you lost your friend. Sorry about that.”
“So what are you doing here? Are you trying to remind me I’ve lost the best person in the universe? Thanks.”
“Wow you’re harsh! No I’m here to help you.”
“Wait what?”
“Yeah I know how we can get him out.”
“You know how to save Kevin?”
“Yeah… I’ve done it one other time. But we need to hurry. We can only do it when the Portal is very week.”
“When will that be?”
“In three days. We need to leave right now.”
“Okay. And Zach.”
“What?”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet, we have to get there. And it won’t be easy.”

Chapter five.

“So where are we going?”
“We are going to the Train station.”
“We can’t go! It’s for humans!”
“Just chill. I know what I’m doing.”
“You are full of yourself.”
“Look we are here.”
“Now what do we do?” He pressed on a brick and we fell in a tunnel where all the ghosts were.
“You see Nora? I told you not to freak out!”
“Yeah I guess you were right. Hey I need to go wash up. Where’s the bathroom?”
“Ooh who are you going to meet?”
“It’s for Kevin. Now I know you are not lying to me.” He then grabbed my shoulders and stared at me. I looked back.
“You thought I was lying?”
“A little.” He paused after I said this.
“Well… Don’t.” He let me go and smiled. I ran to the bathroom to wash up.

As I was in the bathroom, I closed the door and combed my hair with my fingers and suddenly heard a noise but I looked in the room and saw nothing. I then put water in my hands and splashed it on my face. When I opened my eyes, There were three old ghosts that pinned me to a wall. I screamed for Zach. They kept telling me things until Zach came in and pushed them away.

“Get out!”
“Watch out what you do Nora…” Then they went into the floor and vanished. I started tearing up.
“What were those?!”Gg“Those were warners. They are ghosts who have already died and that the Hunter wants them to deliver a message. They know we are up to something… Are you okay?”

“Yeah… Just nervous and scared.”
“Hey. You shouldn’t be scared when you’re a ghost. You are the one who they fear of. So. What did they want.”
“They just kept repeating Nora your weak and watch out what you do nora.”
“Okay… Come on, let’s get on the earliest train.” He helped me up and I fell into his arms. I hugged him. He was comforting.

Chapter six.

We finally got on the train and I fell asleep. I dreamt of Kevin and I together and then Zach was sitting alone. And then sometimes, the opposite. I didn’t know how it felt but in some ways, it felt. nice.

“Nora? Nora wake up.” I finally woke up with Zach picking my hands up so I would stand up.

“We’re here?”
“Well. No. We have arrived to Inspection.”
“What?”
“They are going to make sure we have no record of real world contact.”
“But Zach you have had contact!”
“Shh. I have a plan.” For some reason I trusted him.

We walked to the lady who was checking everyone. Zach put on his hand a glove. I don’t understand him. The lady kept checking us until Zach was about to checked when suddenly he put something in his hand and forced it in the lady’s body.

“I will let go of this steam if you tell people I can’t pass and if you don’t let us pass.”
“Go right ahead sir.”
“Thanks.” As we walked pass:
“Why did you black mail the lady with steam?”
“You didn’t know? Steam kills ghosts. Wow you are a newbie after all.”

Chapter seven.

“So where are we going now?”
“We have to take a bus to the top of the mountain.”
“What?”
“The cemetery is up there.”
“Oh…Okay.” I said worried. I never thought of Kevin being in a coffin.
“Hey don’t stress. We’re going to save him.”
“Alright. Let’s go on the bus.”

After a few hours on the bus, I was so tired I fell asleep every hour. Soon, the bus stopped and said this was farthest it could go. So, we got off.
“Why did we get off?”
“Look at you. Your beat.”
“Oh wow so now it’s about looks right?”
“Just come on.”“I can’t walk. Let’s get back on the bus. I’m not moving.”
“You are coming.” he picked me up and put me on his shoulder.
“Put me down! Now!”
“Why are you being so difficult?!” He finally put me down
“Just let’s get back on the bus! Now!”
“No!” Suddenly he stared at me and closed his eyes. I fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter eight.

I woke up on a bed in a room with my head aching. Then I remembered what Zach did to me.

“What the heck did you do to me last night?”
“What do you mean?”
“You closed your eyes and then poof. I was out. How did you do that?”
“Oh I just put you in a coma sort of thing so you wouldn’t be difficult. Can you get up please? I want to get out of here. Today is the third day.”
“Fine. What’s wrong with this place?”
“During the night, there were at least fifty Warners everywhere for you.”
“What were they saying?”
“You don’t want to know.”
“What were they saying Zach?”
“You don’t want to know!”
“What was it—“
“KEVIN’S READY.” Everything went silent.
“What does that mean.”
“That we only have little time. GET OUT OF BED.”
“Okay okay!” Suddenly I started screaming. My head was hurting very badly. “What’s going on with my head!”
“I don’t know! Are you linked with Kevin in some way?”
“Uh, we vowed to take care of each other why?!”
“Oh no.”
“Why?!”
“Since you guys are linked, if he dies, you didn’t promise to take care of him therefore you… suffer. Come on! We have to save him!”

Chapter nine.

Today was a little different. I just found out I am going to die if I don’t save Kevin. In ways, I’m mad at him but then again, this might be my last second being a Haunting Ghost so do I want to be mad or live life the fullest? Zach has been trying to be generous but he and I both know what’s going to happen.

“You don’t need to make me feel better.”
“Okay. If that’s what you want.”
“What I want is to not die.”
“Would you rather Kevin dies only?” I looked at him in the most upsetting way.
“Why would you say that. I mean obviously you hate him.”
“What? I don’t even know him!”
“Stop the bus!”
“No don’t leave Nora!”
“Get out of my life Zach. Stay away.”
“You need me Nora.”
“Stop!” I left the bus without him and walked alone.
After an hour, I felt bad for leaving him and I didn’t know why. I guess he was right. I needed him now more than ever.

“Why am I so stup— OW!” My head started to hurt. Suddenly, The Warners came and took me. At this moment, I didn’t know what to say but ZACH! I kept screaming until they threatened to put steam in my heart. Do ghosts even have hearts?

I guess this would be the end. I don’t even see Zach. I guess this would be the best time to say that I had feelings for Zach. I don’t know if they are positive or negative but I know they are strong. We finally got to the top of the cemetery. I wonder if I will become a Warner? I guess I will find out. I’m kind of sad though. I feel empty and lonely and I want to see my mom one more time. I wonder if my mother is feeling better. I love you momm— ZACH!

“Zach hel—p” They put steam in my mouth.
“No! Nora! Are you still with me?” I nodded but then I fell down. I couldn’t move or talk but I could see. Zach was killing those Warners so fast it made me feel like I was here for a reason. He finally got all of the Warners down and then took me out of the cage and went into a tunnel. He carried me.
“Everything is going to be okay. You see, we are already here. I’m getting Kevin back!” I started to close my eyes.
“Nora?” I nodded to him again. “Don’t lose hope.” I nodded again reassuring him once and for all. He was so fast and then I closed my eyes with my head hurting but I knew I was not going to die.

Chapter ten.

Zach’s point of view.

Nora fell asleep in my arms. I’m sure she didn’t mean to but she had a hard time. I felt so bad for her. I knew I had to reunite her with her love, even though I wish it were me.

“Nora. If your awake, I want to tell you that we are at the portal and that I’m going to go in there and dig out his body so he is free. Then I will bring him to you. Okay? Okay Nora. Be safe… Love you.”

I said that because she would never here it. And never mean it.

AFTER PORTAL.

I finally got Kevin out.
“Where is Nora?”
“Stay here. I will wake her up.” I said to Kevin. I wanted to say goodbye to her.
I woke with Zach looking at me.

“What happened—“

“Quick we don’t have much time.”

“Why? What?”
“Nora, I want to say that I will always protect you. I protected you When you were alive to and— and—“

“And what?!” I was eager to know.
“I love you.” I took his face and kissed him. I was happy.

I could see Kevin staring at us then fainting. I was happy.
